2019 RECREATION PROGRAMS
Ski Club: This is an after school program for children in grades 5-12 enrolled in Woodstock Middle School and Woodstock Academy. This program allows students to downhill ski/snowboard at Wachusett Mountain after school on Tuesdays for 6 weeks (January 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, February 4th, 11th) with possible make-up dates of February 25th and March 3rd. Registrations will be in two parts: (1) Contact and Authorization for Medical Treatment Forms will be available at the Woodstock Town Hall, First Selectman’s Office. There will be some registration packets at the Middle School and Academy offices. (2) Your registration packet will have an online code (WSTR) to register for our program through Wachusett. This can be found online at www.wachusett.com. This is to register for ski passes, lessons and/or equipment. BOTH of these steps must be completed and payment in full made for transportation. Registration forms must be returned to the Woodstock Town Hall, First Selectman’s Office so the skier/snowboarder may be issued a number to save a seat on the bus. All registrations to Wachusett HAVE to be done by December 4, 2019 or there is a $14 late charge. This program is offered on a first come, first served basis to the first 100 students. Yoga Fall Session will be held at the Woodstock Town Hall, lower level room 1. Classes will take place on Monday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm on the following dates: October 7, 21, 28, November 4, 18, 25, December 2, 9. Class will be held at the WMS Music Room on November 4. The cost is $64 for 8 classes, $35 for 4 classes, or a drop in rate of $10 per class. Click here to download the registration form.
Kids Yoga at Woodstock Middle School: In this class we will focus on the breath, releasing our worries, compassion for ourselves and others, listening to and respecting our bodies, as well as will be introduced to new yoga poses each week that will aid in strengthening and lengthening their bodies. Each student will receive a new crystal weekly. Each session will feature a different theme and run after school in the cafeteria on Wednesdays from 2:30-3:25pm. The schedule for yoga is as follows: Session 1 (Mindfulness) September 11 through October 9, Session 2 (Gratitude) November 13 through December 11, Session 3 (Balancing and Flexibility) February 9 through March 11, and Session 4 (Wellness) May 6 through May 27. Kids Yoga at Woodstock Elementary School: In this class we will focus on the breath, releasing our worries, compassion for ourselves and others, listening to and respecting our bodies, as well as will be introduced to new yoga poses each week that will aid in strengthening and lengthening their bodies. Guided meditation and processing through writing or drawing (student’s choice) with be incorporated. Sessions will feature a different theme and run after school in the front lobby on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30pm. The schedule for yoga is as follows: Session 1 (Animals and Transportation) October 16 through November 6, Session 2 (Seasons/Weather) January 8 through February 5, and Session 3 (Kindness and Friendship) March 25 through April 22. HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training): Test your limit with this fast-paced class! Over 45 minutes we will work sets followed by active rest. We will use our body weight to work every muscle group and our cardiovascular fitness. Please bring a mat or towel and a water bottle. This class will run Monday mornings from 11:30am-12:15pm with Session 1 at the Soccer Field off Senexet Village Road from September 16 through October 28 and Session 2 at the Town Hall lower level room 1 from November 18 through December 23. Squirt Soccer: An introduction to soccer for 3 and 4 year olds. Players will have 30 minutes to learn simple drills, easy ball handling skills and most of all just have fun learning the sport of soccer. Practices will run Saturdays September 7th through October 12th from 9:00-9:30am at the Woodstock Elementary School Soccer Field. Registration fee is $25 per player with a $35 max per family. W.R.E.C.K: Where Recreation and Exploration Catapult Kids is an after school gym program where kids participate in a variety of fun active games. These games include, but are not limited to; basketball, dodgeball, capture the flag, flag football, and variations of tag. This fall we will be hosting two 4-week sessions on Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:30pm in the Woodstock Middle School Gym. The first session will run September 19th through October 10th and the second session will run October 17th through November 14th (no class on November 7th). The program is open to anyone in 5th through 8th grade and the cost to attend is $36 per session. Space is limited to 15 kids. Click here to download a registration form.
Adult Co-Ed Basketball: Join us at the Woodstock Middle School Monday nights from 7:00-9:00pm (8:30-10:30pm during youth basketball season) on September 16th through June 8th for open gym basketball. If there is a holiday or half day on a Monday, we will play on Wednesday night of that week. This free program is open to anyone 18 and older. Click here to download a registration form.
Adult Co-Ed Volleyball: Join us at the Woodstock Middle School Tuesday nights from 7:30-10:30pm (8:30-10:30pm during youth basketball season) on September 17th through June 9th for a fun night of volleyball. There is no volleyball during school breaks and holidays. This program is open to all skills levels of players who are 18 and older. There is an annual fee of $10 per player. Dog Obedience Training: In these classes Donna Savoie from Pack of Paws LLC will teach the important behaviors to make your dog a great companion. This program will meet once a week for 6 weeks and is open to all dogs 5 months or older. The program will run Saturdays, November 2nd - December 7th from 10-11am and is held at the Soccer Field off Senexet Village Road. Cost is $96. For your dog please bring a 6-foot leash (no retractable leashes), harness/collar, mat or towel, water, and plenty of treats. Quilting: All levels are welcome! We will meet Thursdays from 7-10pm at the Woodstock Academy North Campus Room B130 on September 19 through December 5 (class will not meet 10/31 and 11/28). The cost of this 10 week program is $35 and participants will supply equipment, materials, and sewing machines. Space is limited to 15.
Trick or Treat at Roseland Cottage: On Friday, October 25th from 5-7:30pm stop by Roseland Cottage for our annual Trick or Treat Night. Open to kids of all ages. This free event is cosponsored by the Woodstock Business Association, Bank Hometown, and Town of Woodstock Recreation Department.
Fall After School Girls Volleyball Program: Learn how to bump, set, spike, serve, and scoring strategies with fun volleyball drills. Open to all girls in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Volleyball will be held at the Woodstock Middle School Gym from 2:30-3:30pm on November 6, 12, 13, 18, and 19. As a part of the program on Saturday, November 16 participants will have the opportunity to attend a UCONN Women's Volleyball Game. Cost to attend is $25. Click here to download a registration form.
Babysitter Training Course: The purpose of this course is to provide youth ages 11 and up information and skills necessary to provide safe responsible care for children in the absence of parents or guardians. This training will help participants develop skills in critical areas: leadership, safety and safe play, basic care, First Aid, CPR (infant, child, adult), and professionalism. Instructor Jeannine Spink will be leading this training on November 13th and 14th from 5-8pm at the Town Hall lower level room 1. In order to be eligible for certification the participant must attend both classes. Cost is $65 and space is limited to 12 students on a first come, first served basis. Wii Gaming for Woodstock Seniors: The Wii Gaming System is a fun, interactive program that promotes healthy lifestyles through physical active play. Games include tennis, bowling, golf, and dancing. Games are played on a big screen with the use of hand held controllers. The cost is FREE. Please contact the recreation director to schedule your introductory session. All participants must fill out a waiver of liability prior to using the game system. Click here to download the waiver.
Community Kitchen - Every Monday at noon at the First Congregational Church of Woodstock there is a community kitchen event. Local churches take turns each week preparing and serving a free meal for all guests who come. Meals are not served on Holidays, and when Woodstock schools are cancelled.
Tai Chi - Every Tuesday and Thursday there is a free, informal Tai Chi class offered at the East Woodstock Congregational Church from 10-11 am.
2019 Bus Trips
New York City Bus Trip: Join the Pomfret and Woodstock Recreation Department on a trip to NYC on Saturday, November 30th. Bus will leave Putnam DMV (Kennedy Drive) Commuter lot at 6:30am and return home at approximately 10:30pm. Drop off and pick up location in NYC will be the Empire State Building 34th Street.
