Art in the Arboretum Reception

Art in the Arboretum

A gathering was held at the Woodstock Town Hall on Wednesday, May 31st to celebrate and thank the young artists who took part in the Art in the Arboretum Day held earlier in the month.  Nationally recognized and award winning artist, Barbara Lussier, shared her thoughts on the joys of painting plein air in the beauty of places like the Palmer Arboretum.  She also reviewed the young artists work and two prizes were awarded to  TJ Marrier, a student at Woodstock Academy, and Hazel Rigney, a student at Woodstock Middle School.  The art work will be displayed in the Woodstock Town Hall throughout the summer months for all to see.  The Palmer Arboretum Committee is hoping make this an annual event to encourage and support young artists as well as expose people to the beauty of the Arboretum.

The Palmer Arboretum is located on Route 169 in Woodstock and is situated behind the Palmer Memorial Hall (the old Woodstock Town Hall) on Woodstock Hill.  The Arboretum includes cypresses, flowering azaleas, an Arnold Palmer Witch Hazel, a Paper Bark Maple, a Royal Star Magnolia, a Fothergillas Major, and Brukwood Viburnum, Mountain Laurel, Dwarf Fothergilas, and Paxistema.  It is open every day from dawn to dusk and everyone is invited to come and enjoy this beautiful park for education, enjoyment, and enlightenment.
