Woodstock Annual Town Meeting to be held May 3rd

The Woodstock Annual Town Meeting will be held Tuesday May 3rd at 7 pm at the Woodstock Town Hall. The Meeting will be held to approve the proposed budget of the Town of Woodstock for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, in the amount of $25,751,111 as has been recommended by the Board of Finance and to appropriate said sum to meet the recommended expenditures, to adopt a Capital Improvement Plan for a five-year period ending 2026- 2027 as has been recommended by the Board of Finance, and to transact such other business as may properly come before said meeting.

“The Board of Finance, Board of Education, and Board of Selectmen have spent the last few months discussing budgets. Both the town and school have made multiple presentations to the Board of Finance. It’s a lengthy process and we appreciate those citizens who have been able to attend and voice their concerns,” said First Selectman Jay Swan.

At the April 5th Board of Finance Special Meeting, the board voted to give $20,175,619 to the Board of Education and $5,575,492 to the General Government. It is expected that the FY 23 mill rate will be reduced to be 20.9 which is a reduction of 4.6 mills and with no allocations from the reserve funds. The mill rate is subject to change with the final Grand List calculation.

“Everyone in Woodstock seems to have an opinion about taxes and the way they are spent,” said Selectwoman Charlene Perkins Cutler. “It is disappointing in the past how few voters have turned out to decide the outcome of the annual budget referendum. I hope there is much greater participation this year.”

The vote on the budget will take place at a referendum held on May 10, 2022, from 12:00 noon to 8:00 PM at the Woodstock Town Hall. Voters approving the questions will vote “Yes” and those opposing the questions will vote “No.” Absentee ballots will be available at the Office of the Town Clerk.
